What is Honda Sensing Elite?

Smart phones, smart TVs, smart watches…and now, smart cars?  Absolutely, thanks to Honda Sensing Elite!

What is Honda Sensing Elite?

Honda Elite is a more advanced variant of Honda’s exclusive intelligent suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. Think of it as a smart-tech upgrade, designed to stand head and shoulders above the competition.

Honda has set a goal of reaching ZERO traffic-collision fatalities by 2050- ambitious, but Honda’s drive to develop the technology to back this up is also ambitious, and the company is putting the money and resources behind it. Honda Elite is yet another step forward in the tech progression toward that goal.

The Honda Elite package first premiered in Japanese Honda models and is making its way toward our shores in new Honda models. JD Power® did a review of the new package, and highlighted some of its advanced capabilities that set it above other manufacturers standard driver assistance systems. The review points out that Honda’s current top ADAS package available in U.S. vehicles- Honda Sensing 360™- is scheduled to become a standard offering on all Honda models by 2030.

What’s different about Honda Sensing Elite?

According to the J.D. Power review, the Elite version of Honda Sensing builds on the traditional driver assistance features by adding a layer of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance and extend the Honda Sensing capabilities. For example, Honda AI allows drivers to employ hands-free driving in very specific situations, stopping short of making the vehicle fully self-driving. As J.D. Power puts it, “Honda claims Level 3 autonomy, which is considered conditional autonomy. In Level 3 systems, the vehicle can handle all aspects of driving, and the driver does not have to monitor the car. However, the person must be available to take over if needed, so Hondas won’t be driving themselves anytime soon.”

Honda Sensing Elite also features an advanced traffic-jam assist feature, which is employed in congested highway traffic for example. Traffic-jam assist enables the vehicle's automating driving feature, allowing the car to pilot itself in certain low-speed situations, according to Honda. For instance, in a traffic jam, using this assist feature would allow the driver to watch media or adjust the stereo. Current 2024 Honda models feature adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, and traffic-jam assist would be an extension of those features.

How advanced are Honda safety features now?

Very! Perhaps the most important point the J.D. Power article makes for US drivers is that several of Honda’s current model vehicles “have earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), so they are among the safest models on the road, even without Honda Sensing Elite.”
